Veritas Forum - Northwestern University
Veritas Forum
April 7-9, 2010
This past April several student groups at Northwestern hosted two
Christian scholars on campus in cooperation with the Veritas Forum. The
Veritas Forum is an organization that seeks to help campuses "explore,
discuss, engage, inspire, question, and enlarge our view of true life
together." The goal of this event was to start a conversation among
people of different backgrounds and beliefs about issues of truth and
spirituality, and to create an open and accepting atmosphere for that
conversation.
On Wednesday, April 7th at 7pm in Alice Millar Chapel, Miroslav Volf discussed
"Reconciliation in the Face of Conflict"-- in other words, what
forgiveness looks like in a world full of conflict, on both an
individual and corporate level, and why its important. On Thursday,
April 7th at 7pm in Alice Millar Chapel, Os Guinness's talk, "A World Safe for Diversity Despite Our
Deepest Differences," addressed the importance of creating a space in
the public square
for people of radically divergent religious and ideological
perspectives, rather than letting those different perspectives drive
us away from each other. Both speakers spoke for thirty minutes, and
then opened the floor to questions for another thirty minutes. Additionally, Os Guinness spoke on "The Call: Finding and Fulfilling The Central Purpose of Your Life" on Friday, April 9th at 12pm in Fisk Hall.
